The Residence Orchestra

The Residence Orchestra; known also as The Hague Philharmonic was founded in 1904.

The orchestra has undertaken several major tours which included cities such as New York City, Boston, Chicago, Vienna, Munich and Berlin. It has performed under guest conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Hans Knappertsbusch, Carl Schuricht, Arturo Toscanini, and Bruno Walter.


Dutch conductor Jan Willem de Vriend has been appointed principal conductor, together with Nicholas Collon, of Residentie Orkest The Hague.

Since August 2015, De Vriend is leading the orchestra during an average of six weeks per season for the next four years. De Vriend is considered an authority in the field of Baroque, the Classics and the Early Romantics. His performances are marked by their liveliness, expressiveness and drive.
